Defining Hunter as a Hispanic SERVING Institution

Project FRESH logo Clear.png

Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) are defined by the US Department of Education as not-for-profit institutions of higher learning with a full-time equivalent (FTE) undergraduate student enrollment that is at least 25 percent Hispanic.

Hunter College was designated as an HSI in 2019.

The Project FRESH NSF-HSI grant was awarded in January 2022 and is the first Federally funded HSI grant in the history of Hunter College.

Did you know that Hispanic students are currently the largest racial/ethnic undergraduate population at Hunter College? In Fall 2021, Hispanic students made up 29.6% of all undergraduates and this number is expected to grow each year.
